Days after Baltimore resident Kendrick McLellan, 26, was found dead inside a vehicle behind an area office building over the weekend, authorities announced that a 17-year-old was arrested in connection to his death.

The teen is being charged as an adult with first-degree murder and other offenses after being busted at around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at Howard High School, where he is a student.

At the time of his arrest, the student - who has not been identified - was caught with a loaded gun in his backpack.

Investigators made note that at the time McLellan was killed, the teen was under supervision of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and on an ankle monitor for a previous incident in another jurisdiction.

Shortly before 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 12, officers on patrol making routine area checks in the 8800 block of Centre Park Drive in Columbia found McLellan dead in the driver's seat of a vehicle, police say.

He was struck several times.

During the investigation, it was determined that McLellan was shot at around 5 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the same location his body was found.

A second suspect remains unidentified and is at large. The shooting remains under investigation.
